Lovely Layers - CTMH Technique Blog Hop

Welcome to my blog, Paper Crafting With Rebecca!

If you just popped in from Cat Nowak's Blog then you are in the right place!

A blog hop is a friendly circle of artists challenged to design a paper craft using a monthly designated theme or product. Once we create our paper craft using that particular theme/product we then blog post our resulting creations. The next step is to visit each other's blogs so we can see what other’s have designed and created using that same theme/product. Even if you aren't entering a creation in this month's blog hop you are very welcome to join into the "hopping" and be sure to leave your comments below!

This month the challenge is to "use various stamp sets to add layers to flowers, fish, birds, etc." Here is my creation for this challenge:

At this point, you can either continue the blog hop by going straight over to Haley Dyer's blog or you can first see how I made this card by reading below.

For this project I used my Beautiful You Stamp & Thin Cuts and a variety of mini pigments for the various layers. Here are some mini pigments you might like that are currently available: Adventure Exclusive Inks, Enchantment Exclusive Inks, and Basics Exclusive Inks.

I pulled out some sets of three that I thought looked nice together to get started. As the card progressed I ended up adding some other colors, too, but they were all from my stash of mini pigments.

For the first rose I started with Pixie and the largest of the rose stamps. I am stamping on some scrap pieces of White Daisy Cardstock.

Then for the next layer I added in some Smoothie. So far... so good. I am comfortable with the color choices at this point.

For the last layer I used Ruby. At this point I am maybe regretting my decision because the Ruby seemed to overpower the pinks, but I decided to push on and see how it looks when dry.

Then I did another pair of roses using Smoothie, Ruby, and Canary. Again, I wasn't very confident (at first) in my selection of the Canary, but decided to go with it for now.

Then I decided to make some medium sized roses. I decided to use a more neutral color so I started with Heather. I thought it would be fun to make a "non-traditional" color of rose.

Continuing with the "non-traditional" theme I next went to Crystal Blue. I wasn't real impressed, so I used Sapphire on my other Heather rose.

Now time for some leaves. I started my first layer with Sweet Leaf and then added a layer of Fern.

For the small leaves I used Fern and New England Ivy. There wasn't a dramatic color change, but enough to add some variety to the greens.

Next it was time to start to die cutting the pieces out. At this point, I am still not completely confident in my color choices but, after all it's only paper, so I continued on.

Once all the flower and leaf pieces were cut out using my Cricut Cuttlebug I used some Bashful Cardstock and cut a piece 8.5" x 4.25". I then folded it 3" in so I would have a card base that is 4.25" x 5.5".

Using a Rose Embossing Folder I embossed the 3" front flap of the card.

Now came the fun part of arranging the layers of rose die cuts so that they would look pretty from the front, and also have a pretty rose in the correct spot when the card is opened.

Once I put all the colors together I ended up liking it! Granted, the color combinations are a bit unconventional, but I like the "feel" of them all together.

Once I had the roses attached it was time to work on the embossed sentiment for inside the card. I started with a scrap piece of White Daisy Cardstock cut to 4" x 2.75". The piece of scrap I had happened to have a scalloped edge on it from when I had originally cut a previous project, and I liked how it looked, so I left it scalloped for this card. I also used the Smoothie ink and Ranger Clear Super Fine Embossing Powder for the sentiment.

I attached the sentiment card to the card base with the same Tombow Permanent Adhesive I used to attach the flowers and leaves.

Lastly, I wanted to add a bit of embellishment, so I used some White Pearls scattered about for depth and to fill in the places that seemed a bit bare.

Overall, I am pleased with how this card turned out. Of course, it is always prettier in person, but hopefully these pictures will give you a general idea of how I layered the inks and die cuts to create this card.

Thank you for reading my blog and, as usual, I love hearing from you! If you have any questions or comments please do leave them below.

Happy Paper Crafting,
Rebecca
