#1 DFG RGV TX Team Fundraiser

Welcome to my blog Paper Crafting With Rebecca! Today is a different sort of blog entry because, instead of highlighting a paper craft, today it is all about helping a fantastic team of people who work tirelessly to help young women around the world. This blog is the first one in a four part series about the Days For Girls Rio Grande Valley Texas Team and the selfless work they do which impacts and empowers young women internationally.

In this blog series you will learn about what Days For Girls is and what they do (Blog #1), more about the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Texas Team (Blog #2), what a DFG "kit" is (Blog #3), and how to get involved with a DFG team near you (Blog #4). This blog series will also have ways you can help us today to support this team and the work they do. In addition, because I want it to be even more fun, there will be prize drawings involved!

Days For Girls:

What is Days For Girls (DFG)? DFG works with volunteers from around the world to increase "access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating social enterprises, mobilizing volunteers, and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigmas and limitations for women and girls."* They have successfully helped more than one million young women. DFG started out as a small volunteer-run group in November of 2008. Through hard work and a volunteer spirit they have grown to more than 50,000 volunteers all around the world.*

According to the 2015 report from UNICEF and the World Health Organization, there are 1.8 billion girls and women who are of reproductive age on the planet and of these there are at least 500 million who lack facilities and access to products for managing their periods.* What does this mean to the girls in their daily lives?
  • According to the New York Times, girls in rural western Nepal are sent to live in small isolated sheds while menstruating.*
  • Statistics show that 23% of girls in India drop out of school because they lack access to sanitary pads and toilets.*
  • At least half of the girls in populations sampled in Asia, Africa and the Middle East did not have adequate access to hygiene supplies according to an Oxford review of studies.*
  • Another study in Ethiopia found that 56% of girls were absent from school simply because they did not have a sanitary pad.*
The statistics like this go on and on around the globe. Boiled down... girls are missing school and activities simply because they lack sanitary pads and reusable menstrual care kits. Can you imagine your daughter, sister, granddaughter having to sit at home, missing out on school and activities, on a monthly basis because of her period? This is where DFG comes in to help.

A big part of the DFG success is their hand sewn DFG Kits (more on the kits in Blog #3). The RGV TX Team (more on them in Blog #2) is one of the volunteer teams who use their amazing sewing talents to produce these specialized kits which are then donated/distributed around the world. To make these kits they donate their time and buy approved fabrics and sewing supplies. The fabrics, sewing supplies, and distribution obviously cost money, so this is where you and this fundraiser comes into play.

How You Can Help:

I don't sew, but I am a Close To My Heart (CTMH) Independent Consultant and I saw a way we can all assist the DFG RGV TX Team. I have organized this "online party" (officially known as the DFG RGV TX Team Gathering) to help raise funds during the month of April 2019 for the DFG RGV TX Team so they can continue their volunteer efforts with your support.

It is easy... all you need to do is two easy steps:

1. Click this link...↝ Rebecca's CTMH Online Store ↜... and it will take you to the homepage of my online store.
2. Once there, about halfway down the page you will see "Join One of Rebecca's Gatherings". Simply click the "Join" button next to the DFG RGV TX Team and you will be taken to our online gathering designated for this fundraiser where you can shop to benefit the team.

Now here is the great part... anything you purchase will raise money for the DFG RGV TX team because I am donating 100% of my commission from this DFG RGV TX Team Gathering to them! The more you buy, the more money the team will have to buy the supplies needed to make and ship DFG Kits!

It is a win-win because not only will you end up with high quality products delivered to your door to use yourself (or give as a gift to those creative people in your life), you will also be helping the DFG RGV TX team... PLUS, because this is an online "party", you will be eligible for PRIZE drawings! I'll tell you more about that in a moment.

Product Highlight:

Perhaps you aren't familiar with CTMH products or you are thinking "I don't craft". Because of this I am going to highlight two different products (in each of these four blogs in the series) to inspire you! Of the two products, one will be a crafting related product for those of you who craft (or want to send a gift to your favorite crafter) and one will be a not-necessarily-just-for-crafting product you can simply use around your home. Of course, you can buy ANY item in my online store within this gathering and it will benefit the DFG RGV TX Team this month, but here are the two goodies I want to highlight for you this week.

1. Crafting Related Inspiration

CTMH provides us with so many beautiful crafting selections in my online store during the month of April, however, what I want to bring to your attention this week is not necessarily "beautiful"... but I love it anyway! One of my personal favorites in my online store is the CTMH All-Purpose Mat. Although it easily rolls up for storage, I leave mine open on my craft table and use it nearly every single day. This mat is a 15" x 20" non-stick mat perfect for all projects. It easily wipes clean, is heat resistant up to 240 degrees Fahrenheit (which is great when doing projects which require a heat gun), and has a non-slip underside to grip to your work surface. Not only does it protect your work surface, but I love it because I can use it as a water color palette (you can see how this is done in one of my blog entries Color Dare #334), it protects my craft table surface from adhesives, paint, inks, and the mat easily wipes clean when I am done with my project.

2. Not-necessarily-just-for-crafting Related Inspiration

Small Craft Organizer... Yes, I know it has "craft" in the name, but it is so much more. It is a sturdy 17.25" x 15.75" x 3.5" see-through plastic storage solution with removable dividers (it is divided into four equal sections when the dividers are all assembled) and has a fully removable lid. This box is great for organizing those smaller items in your sewing or craft room, but it also can be used in the garage, the kitchen, the bathroom, the children's room, as a first aid box, an organizer in your car/boat/RV... the ideas are endless! If this isn't the size of a storage solution you are needing, then look at the many other types and size options available under the "Organization" tab in my online store and I am confident you will find the one you want. You will end up more organized and the DFG RGV TX Team will benefit from your purchase!

Prize Drawings:

What would an online party be without prize drawings?! Boring! So I will be mailing out prizes to those who order and win a prize in the weekly drawings while participating in the DFG RGV TX Team gathering. The more you order in the DFG RGV TX Team gathering, the more entries you have in the drawing. It is simple math, here is how it works... the entries are determine by multiples of $10 purchased:
  • $00.01 - $9.99   = one entry in the drawing(s)
  • $10.00 - $19.99 = two entries in the drawing(s)
  • $20.00 - $29.99 = three entries in the drawing(s)
  • $30.00 - $39.99 = four entries in the drawing(s)
  • $40.00 - $49.99 = five entries in the drawing(s)
  • $50.00 - $59.99 = six entries in the drawing(s) and be eligible for the Stamp of the Month
  • etc...
So for example:
  • If the products ordered totals $7.98 you would be eligible for one entry in the drawing(s).
  • If your products ordered totals $20.07 you would have three entries in the drawing(s).
  • If your products ordered totals $50.00 you would have six entries in the drawing(s) PLUS you can order the Stamp of the Month for only $5.00 (it is regularly $18.95).
  • etc...
There will be a total of four Monday morning (0900 EST) drawings: April 8, April 15, April 22, and April 29. The added bonus is that the sooner you order the more drawings you will be included in
  • If you send in your order before 0830 EST April 8 you will be entered in all four of the drawings!
  • If you send in your order between the first drawing on April 8 and 0830 EST April 15 you will be entered in the April 15, April 22, and April 29 drawings.
  • If you send in your order between the second drawing on April 15 and 0830 EST April 22 you will be entered in the April 22 and April 29 drawings.
  • If you send in your order between the third drawing on April 22 and 0830 EST April 29 you will be entered in the final drawing.
Basically, get that order sent to this fundraiser as soon as possible and you will have a better chance of winning a prize drawing! Winners will be announced on this blog weekly and prizes will be mailed out each week.

So there you have it. You can shop online in the DFG RGV TX Team Gathering until midnight April 29th and 100% of the sales commission from this gathering will be donated to the team.

If you have any questions or comments please leave them in the comment section below or send me an email via the comment section on the home page of this blog. Let's make this a successful fundraising gathering for this generous hardworking team and be sure to read next week's blog to learn more about the DFG RGV TX Team, see two more featured products and find out if you are the winner of first drawing!

Happy Fundraising!
Rebecca
