Color Dare #331 - Brown + White + Splash

Time for another Color Dare! This one requires I limit my color palette a bit. I love working with browns and white, but to be limited to only one other "splash" of color?! Oh my! However, participating in a Color Dare is a great way to challenge oneself to think outside of the box. If you would like to see the rules or make an entry of your own, then click the link below...

For this card I decided to make a birthday card focused more on the masculine side of design. No frillies, no flowers, no "girly" touches. Simply a card that can be given to a guy to remind him I haven't forgotten him on his special day!

I started by cutting out some Lemon Cardstock with my Thin Cuts - It's Your Day die using my Cricut Cuttlebug. Then, using the same die, I cut out another piece but this time in White Daisy Cardstock. I made sure to leave the white layer of the die cut in the die.

Why leave it in the die you may ask? I left it in there to make it easier to line up the yellow when I get to that step. First, however, I cut off the tops of the candles and the word "YOUR".

Once that was completed I glued the yellow piece in on top of the white piece... be careful NOT to glue the cardstock to your die! Once you get them together, before the adhesive dries, take them out of the die and clean off any glue smears you may have left behind on your die. Next, I cut a piece of the white cardstock to be 5.5" x 4.25" while the die cut glue dried a bit.

Once I glued the die cut to the top of the white cardstock I was ready for the Kraft Paper. Using the same die I once again cut out IT'S YOUR DAY using the Kraft paper.

This time, however, it was so I could use the negative space. Very carefully I glued all the negative pieces of the die cut into the appropriate spaces. Once I had all the kraft paper glued in I used my Clear Shimmer Brush to add a bit of shimmer to the yellow. Even though this is a masculine birthday card I figured a little bit of shimmer is okay, after all, it is a birthday card!

I then attached this card front to a top folding card base (I made mine out of the Lemon Cardstock, but white would work fine, too) that was standard A2 size (4.25" x 11" folded in half). All that is left to do is to include a handwritten note inside the card and send it off in a matching kraft envelope! A birthday card made with brown, white, and a splash of yellow is sure to brighten up his day.

Thank you for reading my blog and seeing how I made this cheerful masculine birthday card. If you have any comments, suggestion, or questions please leave them for me in the comment section below.

Happy Paper Crafting,
Rebecca
