Double Duty Layout: Scrapbook & Cards

Welcome to Paper Crafting With Rebecca! I am so happy you are joining me today and I hope you find something of value here. I'm not sponsored, I don't sell anything, I don't promote any particular product anymore... I'm just putting this information out here for my fellow paper crafters and future paper crafters!

Today I wanted to show you how you can take a scrapbook layout and turn it into a card layout (or take a card layout and convert it to a scrapbook layout). I made a video similar to this about 6 months ago, and you can check it out here: Card or Scrapbook Layout? But I had a few questions to answer and a request to revisit this idea (using a different layout example) so here we are!

So for today's video I used a layout I designed for an 8.5" x 11" double layout. From this single layout design I created two cards... but there are endless possibilities. Here is the video to show you what I did...

I will also include the measurements below for one of the cards. Of course I am measuring them for you "after the fact" because, as you see in the video, I "wing it" when I am creating the cards and cutting the paper all based on what I think best fits and looks right. (I would give you the measurements of the "Be happy" card but I just put it in the mail today and forgot to measure it.)

However, since I haven't yet mailed this butterfly card yet... let me give you the measurements!
  • Card base is 10" x 7" folded in half to create a 5" x 7" card.
  • The first layer (pink) is 4.75" x 6.75".
  • The blue side stripe is 1.75" x 7".
  • The patterned center (floral) is 4" x 4".
  • The sentiment square needs to be cut to whatever fits the stamp you are using. The one I used ended up being 1.5" x 4".
  • The small accent piece at the bottom (yellow) is 3.75" wide and only 0.75" of it peeks out from under the floral.
  • I then added a strip of washi tape to blend the floral into the yellow. I also added butterflies as my focal point (in place of the picture I would have in a scrapbook layout).
  • Lastly, I added some sequins, shimmer pen, and a single drop of clear Nuvo drops (on the bird's eye) for embellishments.
I hope this helps you think about using scrapbook layouts for card making (or the other way around). It certainly is helpful if you want a little extra guidance in creating a card/scrapbook page but you don't feel like re-inventing the entire layout.

Thank you for visiting my blog page (and Melissa... I hope this answers all your questions). If you have any questions, comments, suggestions... please leave them for me below. I would love to read your feedback.

Happy Paper Crafting,
Rebecca
