If you are a beginning paper crafter (or even an experienced one who remembers those days) then you might be overwhelmed with all the crafting supply options available out there. I often ask myself, "should I purchase this tool or can I do the job myself with something already found in my craft area?" Now that I have been paper crafting for a number of years I have many of the fun crafting tools accumulated, however, I remember having to learn how to "do the job with what I already own" many times!
To demonstrate this, I made this video showing how I progressed from scoring projects using a kids paint brush up to buying a scoring tool such as the Scor-Pal. Scoring is a basic, but important, skill in paper crafting. Once you have scoring down then there is nothing stopping you from creating your own spines for card-books, journals, memory books, etc. (as demonstrated in this video) without having to use a die.
